SP68 Vertical Flights

Arianna Occhipinti is among the most esteemed winegrowers in the world. Her respect for the land, her natural approach to winemaking and her sense of history and tradition come together producing some of Sicily’s most delicious—and often hard to find—wines.

At Puritan & Co., we have a special fondness for her Frappato; it is brilliant in most every vintage showcasing the aromatic complexity of the variety with a richness of texture and flavor found in few wines anywhere. We also love the SP68 Rosso, a blend of 70% Frappato and 30% Nero d’Avola, a sort of ode to the road (Strada Provinciale 68) that runs by her vineyards and is one of the oldest wine routes in Italy. It is, in Arianna’s words: “A wine that, in its harmonies and roughness, talks about the land where it comes from and also about me.”

We always keep a few bottles back each vintage, and as a follow-up to last summer’s Frappato Vertical tasting and dinner, this year we are offering a handful of vintages by the glass: choose one vintage or a vertical tasting of three. This is a rare and unique opportunity to discover the differences between vintages of a wine rarely kept around for more than one or two vintages., but also one that rewards patience and contemplation.
